Nitevia listens while you sleep and figures out what happened — snoring, coughing, restlessness. Every bit of that analysis runs on your device. We have no servers that store your recordings. We don't know who you are. We don't need to.
Two things can leave your device, and neither is about your sleep: anonymous usage data (which screens of the app are opened; you can turn it off in Settings) and, only if you turn them on, crash reports. Both are described in §9.
Nitevia collects only what's needed to analyze your sleep:
| Data | Where it lives | Ever leaves device? |
| Audio recordings | App-private storage on your device | No |
| Sound event classifications (label, timestamp, confidence) | App-private storage on your device | No |
| Session metadata (duration, event count, battery usage) | App-private storage on your device | No |
| Your preferences (retention setting, display options) | App-private storage on your device | No |
| Your answers to the Sleep apnea risk check (§5) | App-private storage on your device | No |
| Nights you record on an Apple Watch: short sound clips and a battery log (§6) | On your Apple Watch, then moved to your iPhone | No |
Crash diagnostics (opt-in only, OFF by default): if — and only if — you turn on crash reporting, limited technical crash data may leave your device as described in §9. It is off unless you explicitly enable it.
Anonymous usage data (ON by default, you can turn it off): which screens are opened and which steps are completed, as described in §9. It never includes anything in the table above.
All Nitevia data lives in your device's private app sandbox (iOS) or app-private storage (Android):
Before a night you can tag what might have affected your sleep — caffeine, exercise, stress, and so on, chosen from a fixed list in the app. Factor selections are stored in app-private storage on your device. They are never uploaded. They are used only to show you patterns across your own nights.
Deleting them. Deleting a night removes that night's factor selections.
The app offers a short self-check: eight yes/no questions about your sleep. Your answers and the date you took it are stored in app-private storage on your device. They are never uploaded or shared, and the result is worked out on your device each time it is shown.
The check is a self-assessment, not a diagnosis. If it suggests a higher risk, talk to a doctor.
Deleting them. "Clear" in the check removes your answers, and so does Delete all data (§10). Taking it again replaces them.
If you record a night on the Nitevia Apple Watch app, the watch saves short clips around sounds and a battery log in the watch app's private storage.
When you stop, the watch sends that night's clips and battery log to your iPhone, directly between your own devices through Apple's watch connection. Your iPhone analyses them on the device, like a night recorded on the phone, and keeps them in its app-private storage. Once your iPhone has the whole night, the watch deletes its copies. Nothing is uploaded and nothing reaches us.
While a night is recording, the watch also tells your iPhone whether it is recording and since when, so the iPhone can show "Recording on your Apple Watch". That status carries no audio.
So you can browse your nights on the watch, your iPhone sends it a short list of your nights: their dates, lengths, scores and the sounds in them (no audio). When you tap a sound on the watch, your iPhone sends that one clip to play; the watch keeps it only while that night is still on your iPhone.
A night recorded on the watch is then deleted like any other night (§10). A night the watch has not sent yet is deleted by removing the watch app.
You control how many nights Nitevia keeps. Choose in Settings → Saved records:
You can delete individual sessions or wipe all data at any time from Settings → Data Management.
Anonymous usage data (§9) is kept by Google Analytics for 14 months from your last activity, then deleted.
Crash diagnostics — opt-in, OFF by default
To help us fix bugs, Nitevia includes optional crash reporting. It is off by default and only sends anything if you turn it on. When enabled:
You can turn crash reporting on or off at any time in Settings. When it is off, no data is sent.
Usage analytics — ON by default, you can turn it off
To understand which parts of the app are used and where people get stuck, Nitevia sends anonymous usage data:
You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Share usage data. Turning it off also deletes anything collected that had not been sent yet, and no usage data is sent after that.
Update check
When the app starts, it asks our server (nitevia.iocar.app) whether a newer version of Nitevia is required. The request contains nothing about you or your sleep: no account, no identifier, no recordings. Like any web request, the server sees your IP address and the app's standard user agent (the app's name and build number, and your iOS version). These appear in the server's request logs, which are kept for up to 30 days and used only to answer the check and keep the server running. They are not used for tracking or advertising.
Subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple under your Apple ID. We do not receive your payment details.
This policy
When you open this policy in the app, it is loaded from our website (iocar.app), like any web page. The pages are delivered by Cloudflare, our hosting provider. To send you a page, Cloudflare handles technical data that every website request carries, such as your IP address, your browser type and the time of the request. Older versions of the app load this policy from GitHub Pages instead, where GitHub sees the request.
No other third-party services are in use.
Delete all data removes your recordings, clips, reports and each night's factor selections. If a recording is in progress it will refuse rather than delete, and tell you so. If any file cannot be removed, it says so plainly rather than reporting success.
Sharing a clip is the only way audio leaves your device, and only when you choose to share it. The shared copy is stripped of recording metadata first.
Everyone:
You can delete all your data at any time from within the app (Settings → Data Management). Delete all data removes your nights, clips, reports, factor selections, the custom tags you typed, starred sounds, your Sleep apnea risk check answers and your answers from the first-run questions. Your settings (such as language and reminder time) are kept. Nights recorded on an Apple Watch are deleted with it once they are on your iPhone; a night the watch has not sent yet is deleted by removing the watch app (§6). Because your data lives only on your devices, deleting it there is complete deletion — nothing else to request.
European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR):
The app-instance identifier in usage data and, if crash diagnostics are enabled, device identifiers in crash reports may qualify as personal data under the GDPR. For that data you have rights to:
Contact us (§13) to exercise these rights. You can object to usage data at any time by turning it off in Settings. Our legal basis for usage data and crash data is legitimate interest in improving the app and keeping it stable, balanced against your privacy rights given the minimal, non-content data involved.
California (CCPA):
We do not sell your personal information. Anonymous usage data and, if crash diagnostics are enabled, limited device diagnostic data are shared with a service provider solely for app analytics and crash analysis — this qualifies as a "service provider" relationship, not a sale.
Nitevia is not directed at children under 13 (United States) or under 16 (European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app requires no account and collects no identifying information on-device. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used this app, contact us to request any associated data deletion.
If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes — particularly if we add services that send data off-device — we will notify you within the app before the change takes effect.
